ONE SOURCE OF INCOME; DANGER AHEAD!!!

Many of us have been brought up knowing there is always one source of income and that is through education. We used to be told “Go to school and make your future bright” and we went and everyone was aiming to get a good grade and be number one in class.

Once a person failed, he/she was considered to be useless in the society, even the parents/guardian get angry at the individual. I remember when I was in primary school, one day I didn’t get the marks which I was aiming, and I had told myself that if I’ll  not get this points am aiming for, then am not capable of doing anything great. That day I cried even the teachers asked me what’s wrong.

But we shouldn’t put all our mentality on education alone, there are other ventures that we can prosper in. I’m not trying to dismiss the fact that education is key to success here; all am trying to imply is that education shouldn’t be the only way we know way to be prosperous.

Yes, we went to school and probably we are in campus; we are waiting to graduate so that we venture into the professionalism. Do you want to tell me you will only rely on that job the rest of life? No! We have to find other sources of income to boost our gross earning.

And that is why a lot of our youths are crying “oh there is unemployment”, it’s just because they don’t want to find something else to do rather than what they are trained for. For a moment let me ask, do you want to tell me that all the students in the University of Nairobi will get their profession job?  Keep in mind the
University of Nairobi is not the only university we have in Kenya.

Let’s be realistic here, a normal university has a population of around 1,000 students doing a particular course in a certain year. And we have around 50 courses, mathematically speaking that is 50,000 students in a particular year. And there are always four groups; first, second, third and fourth years. In simple terms am saying, in a span of 4 years 200,000 students graduate from a single university,  keep in mind averagely we have 40 universities in Kenya.

It is so unrealistic to say after every four years there will be eight million job vacancies. That’s why I’m saying education is not the only way one can succeed in life, even though it is believed by many to be the only way.
Today, many university’s students waste a lot of their time when they are off the curricular program; long vacation for example. All they think about is going to parties, instead of finding ways to generate income. They only use their parents’ money recklessly.

The reason why I say one source of income is a danger zone is  that the net salary from any professional job will never make anyone wealthy! And if it does, probably not on planet earth because any gross salary is almost directly proportional to one’s spending, and I can prove it.

Let’s say I earn Ksh 80,000, I pay my house rent around 30,000.  I’m left with 50,000, probably I have two kids and they both go to school and the fee for the both of them is around 20,000. Maybe food and clothing is around 10,000. Other unexpected costs may incur and that maybe around 10,000. For transportation cost can be around 5,000 and finally maybe I want to take my family to have fun and I spend 5,000.

And that’s how my 80,000 got finished without even saving. This comes to my conclusion that gross salary no matter how much it is, is equal in everyone hand. Furthermore, it is directly proportional to what you will spend that particular month.

So don’t ever rely on one source of income, you could start a small business to boost your income at the end of the month. It doesn’t have to be big, because small bits when they many they make up one huge magnificent thing.
